I hope it doesn’t bother people if I decide to tell my school stories.
Tuesday: Math exam part 1. Wednesday: Math exam part 2. Thursday: Accounting exam. Friday: Math project due and Accounting quiz. Next week: Finals.
Who’s bright idea was it to put so many exams at the end of the quarter?! I’ve been running almost non-stop. Study-study-study. I took the second part of my math exam yesterday. I think I did well, but the last problem had me really stumped. Here it is for anyone who thinks they can take a shot at it.
A train and a car leave the same place at exactly 9am. The train travels north at 50mph while the car travels west at 65mph. How fast is the distance between them increasing at 11am?
The problem has to do with rates and related rates. I can figure it out once I have the equation, but finding the equation was hard for me. Here is the equation: D(t)=√((65t)^2+(50t)^2). And the derivative: D’(t)=√(65^2+50^2). That also happens to be the answer to the question.
I’m going to miss being in math next quarter. I’ve really gotten to like the students. Most of them are engineering students or math students and they are really fun to be around. Likable people.
